FAQ (English)
General Event Questions
1. What is the Malaysia 4x4 Trophy event, and how is it structured?
The Malaysia 4x4 Trophy is an extreme off-road motorsport event that combines technical 4x4 driving challenges, adventure, and endurance. The event is divided into two main categories: the Trophy Category and the Adventure Category. It is a multi-day event that includes a prologue, jungle stages, and various team-based challenges designed to test both driving skills and teamwork. Participants will navigate through rugged environments and face multidisciplinary tasks that go beyond driving, including jungle survival elements.

2. What are the different categories of participation (Trophy, Adventure)?
There are two main categories in the event:
• Trophy Category: This category is highly competitive, with teams of two vehicles facing a series of timed tasks and challenges. The focus is on technical off-road driving and teamwork.
• Adventure Category: This category is more focused on adventure and learning. Participants in this category will engage in 4WD recovery training and take part in special tasks, but the emphasis is less on competition and more on skills development and experience.

3. What is the difference between the Trophy and Adventure categories?
The Trophy Category is designed for serious competitors looking for a challenge. It involves completing timed tasks and scoring based on how quickly and efficiently teams can complete various off-road challenges.
The Adventure Category, on the other hand, is aimed at participants who want to experience the event without the pressure of competition. It involves learning and practicing 4WD recovery skills and other off-road techniques through guided tasks.

4. How many days does the event last, and what is the itinerary?
The event lasts for approximately 9 days, starting with registration and technical inspection, followed by a prologue stage, jungle stages, and concluding with a final victory stage and an awards ceremony. The detailed itinerary includes tasks for both categories, with specific days dedicated to team tasks, 4WD recovery training, and special challenges for Adventure participants. Refer to Itinerary page.

5. What are the requirements for vehicle and participant registration?
All participants must register their vehicles and team members before the event begins. Both the vehicle and the driver must meet the technical standards required for off-road endurance challenges, which will be verified during the scrutineering process. Participants must also sign a waiver and attend the event briefing for safety and event protocol.

Trophy Category Questions
6. Is there a technical inspection for vehicles, and what does it cover?
Yes, all vehicles participating in the event will go through a technical inspection, also known as scrutineering. This process ensures that the vehicles meet the required safety and technical standards for off-road driving. Inspections will cover areas such as vehicle recovery equipment, engine specifications, suspension setup, and overall vehicle condition. Any vehicle that does not meet the required standards will not be allowed to participate.

7. How are teams structured in the Trophy Category?
Teams in the Trophy Category consist of two vehicles, meaning there are two drivers and two co-drivers per team. During any of the team tasks, drivers and co-drivers can alternate positions. At the start of each team task, the marshals will request the two vehicles to position themselves in the starting box. The team will then perform the task, and the timing will be recorded from start to finish. Teams must complete the task within the allocated DNF time to avoid receiving a DNF score.

8. What are the different classes in the Trophy Category, and how are they determined?
The Trophy Category is divided into three classes based on the combined engine capacity of the two vehicles in a team, and also includes an overall class for the category:
• Class T1: Combined engine capacity below 4000cc
• Class T2: Combined engine capacity between 4000cc and 6000cc
• Class T3: Combined engine capacity above 6000cc
Teams will compete within their respective classes, with separate awards given for the top teams in each class, as well as for the overall category.

9. What kinds of tasks or challenges will the Trophy competitors face?
The Trophy competitors will face approximately 16 to 20 team tasks spread across different stages of the event. These tasks are designed to test the technical skills of both drivers and co-drivers, as well as their ability to work together as a team. Tasks may include crossing difficult terrain, recovery challenges, vehicle maneuvering, and problem-solving obstacles. Each task will have a time limit, and teams must complete the tasks within this time to avoid receiving a Did Not Finish (DNF) score.

10. How is the scoring done for the Trophy Category?
Scoring in the Trophy Category is based on the time taken to complete each team task. The time recorded for each task is added together throughout the event. The team with the shortest cumulative time at the end of the event will be declared the winner in their class. Teams that fail to complete a task within the allocated time will be awarded the DNF time, which is typically higher than the time taken by teams that complete the task.

11. What happens if a team does not complete a task within the allocated time?
If a team does not complete a task within the allocated time, they will be awarded the Did Not Finish (DNF) time for that task. The DNF time is usually a fixed, longer time than the average completion time, and it will negatively affect the team’s overall score. Teams are encouraged to complete tasks as efficiently as possible to avoid the DNF penalty.

12. What are the awards for the Trophy Category, and how are they distributed?
Awards for the Trophy Category are given for the top teams in each class:
• Class T1: 1st
• Class T2: 1st
• Class T3: 1st
In addition, there will be awards for the overall category:
1st overall champion
2nd overall
3rd overall
4th overall
5th overall
The teams with the shortest total times will receive the trophies and any additional prizes sponsored by event partners.

14. What kinds of special tasks will Adventure participants face?

These tasks are more about skill development than competition, making it a great opportunity for those new to off-road adventures. At the end of the special tasks, small prizes will be given to the best-performing team. These will be prizes, not trophies.15. How will the 4WD recovery training be structured during the event?
